Popular podcast After the Whistle with Brendan Hunt and Rebecca Lowe will return for a third season on June 7, Apple said Wednesday. The show, which stars Ted Lasso alum Hunt and Premier League soccer commentator Lowe, will arrive in time to cover the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“We are thrilled to bring After the Whistle back for a third season,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services and health, in a press release. “Brendan and Rebecca have an incredible ability to capture the energy and passion of the World Cup. Their unique dynamic and deep love for soccer make this show an absolute can’t-miss for fans everywhere.”

After the Whistle podcast returns for World Cup

After the Whistle pairs Hunt — actor and co-creator of the Emmy Award-winning Apple TV soccer comedy Ted Lasso — with Lowe, who hosts NBC Sports’ Premier League coverage and co-hosts Fox Sports’ FIFA World Cup 2026 broadcast. Together, they break down key games and recap the most exciting moments on and off the pitch with a mix of passion and humor that has won the show a devoted following.

When and where to listen

Produced by Apple News and presented by Verizon, the podcast airs in both audio and video formats on Apple News, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your podcasts. A trailer, below, went live Wednesday on Apple News, Apple Podcasts and the show’s social media channels.

The first episode arrives on June 7 with tournament previews. And new episodes will drop multiple times a week in the hours following the biggest games.

What the hosts had to say

Hunt noted that the tournament is guaranteed to leave him and perhaps others distraught. But the podcast would hopefully help listeners navigate it, too.

“The World Cup is always unpredictable except for one thing — it’s guaranteed to repeatedly leave me an emotional wreck,” said Hunt. “Lucky for me, I’ll have these regular chats with the great Rebecca Lowe to get me through it. And maybe, just maybe, these same chats can help everybody else get through the tournament, too.”

Lowe said that when she and Hunt get together to talk about soccer, it usually involves laughter, a few tears or something in between. And that she couldn’t wait for the emotional roller coaster of the World Cup.

“With one of the biggest sporting and cultural events of our lifetimes being our backdrop this time, I can’t wait for the emotional roller coaster that this World Cup will take us on, and getting to relive it all with Brendan on After the Whistle,” she said.

More World Cup coverage on Apple devices

The podcast isn’t Apple’s only World Cup offering for iPhone users. The Apple News app will carry tournament coverage from top publishers, along with the full schedule, scores, brackets and dedicated news feeds for prominent players. And you can follow your favorite teams, of course.

The free Apple Sports app, which Apple expanded to more than 90 new countries earlier this month, will offer live scores, real-time play-by-play via Live Activities, in-depth statistics, visual lineup formations and a bracket view for the tournament. Favorited teams and leagues sync automatically across Apple News, Apple Sports and Apple TV.
